This week I reflected on the development of my project as it initially had started with a lot of hurdles. I had the idea of letting it be a natural reverse because of the nice wind contours and beautiful land form.

As I was doing my research, I found that there was a lot of history behind the place.

During WW1 and WW2, the land was being used to manufacture ammunition, with women working in dangerous conditions to produce weapons and ammunition for the front line.

Gallion's Reach was used as a firing range and a wall that still stands today, shows evidence of the live firing that took place.

Unfortunately I was unable to find much data on the activity that took place during that period.

As I progressed through my project, I wanted to not only cater towards animals, but also to humans. Since the project was initially driven by bats, it was difficult to consider both as bats are reclusive animals that tend to avoid people.

The project first went in the direction of creating a pavilion walkway, however the scale was completely off. I did not know the scale was significantly off where it nearly doubled the size of apartment building. Due to this, I ended up changing my plan multiple times, as U was trying to consider how things can flow well with the land that is available as well as thinking about how the community could benefit. I initially thought adding something new and different would add an interesting aspect to the site but then I had the thought about turning it into a memorial natural reserve. This way, people could gain knowledge about the history of the site and the nature that is already there could be embraced.

All these different elements will be the driving force for my project moving forward.
