Bats are very sensitive to light and noise pollution. Noise pollution can affect their foraging and navitagation as they rely heavily on their hearings. Areas where there are high noise pollution, bats tend to stay away from which means there is less foraging and hunting activity in these surrounding areas.
Bats go through different roosting periods, where they stay in sheltered sites like trees and caves.
The different types of roosting that takes place also depends on the season
Summer Roosts - Female bats get together in warm locations to give birth and raise their young
Winter Roosts - Bats enter deep sleep in the cold environment to survive the lack of food and low temperatures.
Mating/Swarming Roosts - Usually takes place around September to October time where bats mate and build up fat reserves for the cold season ahead.
It is very important to keep low disturbance in areas that are inhabitated by bats as it could wake them from hibernation, reducing overall foraging and hunting activity which could potentially lead to starvation. #
