Permeable paving not only looks modern but it also works well in highly water logged areas. This kind of paving is the best type of paving in places of high rain fall. Any type of permeable paving is great as it infiltrates the surface beneath which in turn reduces flooding.
The different types of permeable pavings include:
Permeable Block Paving: Blocks of concrete or clay that have gaps which allow water to drain into a stone sub-base. This is often used in residential driveways.
Porous Asphalt/Concrete: The only difference in this compared to the traditional asphalt/concrete paving is that it has reduced fine particles which create voids that allow water to pass through the surface.
Resin Bound Gravel: When gravel is mixed with porous resin, the solid that is created is a permeable surface that is durable and looks good.
Grass Pavers and Grids: Honeycomb shaped grids, usually made of plastic or concrete, that are filled with gravel or grass. This type of paving is usually used in areas of light traffic, parking, and maintaining green spaces.
Loose Gravel: This is the simplest form of permeable paving as it provides high drainage but at a low cost.
Open-Joint Paving: This type of paving have gaps between the pavers which are usually filled with loose permeable aggregarate such as sand or gravel. This allows the water to infiltrate the ground.
